Samsung has released One UI 9 beta updates to several eligible Galaxy devices over the past few weeks. Besides a slightly refreshed UI design language and new capabilities, the software brings a minor new feature that helps improve battery life on high-end Galaxy phones and tablets.
Some eagle-eyed Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S25 users have spotted that One UI 9.0 has added three new display refresh rate modes to their devices. Phones in these lineups have reportedly received support for 20Hz, 26.67Hz, and 40Hz refresh rates.
With more refresh rate options available, a phone can choose a more optimal display setting to strike a balance between visual smoothness and battery endurance. For example, the phone can drop to a 20Hz refresh rate rather than 24Hz when the screen does not feature many moving elements, thereby saving power and lengthening battery life slightly.
These three options have been spotted on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S25, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Because the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Edge also feature LTPO screens, it is likely they will support these new refresh rate modes as well.
These modes are already present on the Galaxy S26 series running One UI 9.0, but it remains unclear whether the devices in the lineup had those modes from the start or if they received them via the One UI 9.0 beta update.
